Fundraiser Gig for Billy

Saturday 11th April, Florence Park Community Centre, Doors Open 6.45pm

A gig to come together to celebrate the life of Billy Ross and feel rage for the injustice of the prison system.

Line up:

Worry – emotional hardcore

Kemastry – hip hop/rap

Astra Pentaxia – rainbow goth/synthwave

Amberant – sleep grunge

Our friend and comrade died in prison last year – the 23rd of March should have been his birthday. Join us for a night of solidarity and anger, we will not let his life be erased.

Access and venue info:

This gig is donate what you can: we are only able to accept cash donations and cannot take card.
No one will be turned away for lack of funds or asked to pay on entry.
Any money raised will go towards the cost of hiring the venue, and any remaining funds will be distributed to prisoners.
If you know someone in prison who needs funds and does not have their information distributed already in letter-writing and solidarity campaigns, please get in touch and we will see if we can support them.

We have hired the main hall, garden and lounge room. There are seats available in both the lounge room and the hall.

The lounge room will be open as both a quiet space and also a place to write letters of support to prisoners. Information on the prisoners will be provided on the day, as well as paper, pens, pencils and envelopes.

There is off-street parking for 9 vehicles. There is also free on-street parking. Due to the LTNs, you should approach from Rymers Lane or Florence Park Road if you are driving.

From Oxford city centre, you can catch a bus to the centre. The 3, 3A and 46 arrive at Freelands Road, approximately a 5 minute walk from the venue.

There is 1 disabled bathroom as well as a 2 bathrooms which are usually gendered, but we will remove the signage on these. You are welcome to use whichever bathroom you are comfortable with.

There is a ramp for wheelchair access into the building. There is a toilet that is wheelchair accessible.

We will have access to the garden, which is wheelchair accessible – the centre has asked that we try to reduce the noise out there as the evening continues.

You can buy drinks from the bar – this is a space that sells alcohol, so not a sober event.

We are able to provide both earplugs and face masks on the day but please also consider bringing your own.

There is free wifi in the venue.

If you want to take photos at this event, please ask those being photographed for consent before doing so. There will be someone taking photos of the artists and bands.

Please do not attend the show if you have symptoms of covid. We encourage you to take a test before attending the show – and to wear a mask if you are able. We will provide spare masks on the day.

If Billy was your friend or comrade and you think attending this event will offer you closure, but you are worried about the cost of travelling to it, please DM @abingdonqueeraction on instagram or email them at abingdon_queer_action@riseup.net They are able to provide a limited amount of accessibility funds for this event – this is open to those who live outside of Oxfordshire too.

Any remaining questions can be answered via DMs or email – alternatively, you can contact the community centre florenceparkcommunitycentre@gmail.com or 07864 028591.
