On Saturday the 9th of July, we joined London Trans Pride in a march for liberation, justice and freedom. Our vision is a future free of violence from this system: an end to harsh policing, psychiatry, conversion therapy and waiting lists that are killing us. As queer and trans people, the mere act of existing is seen as a political statement. We are expected to be able to make an excuse for our existence and educate those who ask about our identities, which are frequently deeply rooted in trauma and complex to put into words. Trans people don’t owe you an education, even if some of us may feel comfortable giving you one. It was an honour to join an estimated 20,000 queer and trans people in solidarity, rage and hope for the future. When we gather together, it’s a celebration of our queer identities. When we gather together, we meet with people from so many walks of life and stand in solidarity with one another. When we gather together, we can acknowledge what we’ve been through and what we hope for. Together we shout for trans power and seek light in the darkness.
